9to5Toys Spotlights RePod by Techpod as a New Role for an Old Apple Watch

The coverage starts with a familiar problem: a Watch that still works has lost its place in the day.

A working Apple Watch can outlive its place on your wrist. In its October 26 coverage, 9to5Toys focused on RePod by Techpod as a way to turn that spare Watch into a handheld device you can carry again.

That second-life idea is the useful part of the story. RePod supplies the enclosure and handheld interaction. Your Apple Watch still supplies the screen, watchOS, apps, battery, storage and connectivity.

Is RePod useful for an old Apple Watch?

It can be when the Watch still works, matches a current RePod version and has a clear job in your day. Check the Watch first, choose the task you want it to handle, then match its generation and case size to the current selector.

The Watch needs a reason to leave the drawer

9to5Toys identified the transformation quickly: an older Apple Watch moves from a wrist device you no longer wear to a small object you can hold and carry. The shape catches attention, but the next question decides whether it earns a place in your pocket. What will you use it for?

Pick one task you already know the Watch can handle. It might hold downloaded music for a walk, keep a timer close while you work, or run another Watch app you already use. A single dependable job is a better starting point than treating every Watch feature as equally important.

Check the old Watch before buying a new case

  1. Confirm the Watch is healthy enough to use. Charge it, unlock it, open the intended app and test the Digital Crown. RePod cannot repair a failed battery, screen or Crown.
  2. Run the task once without your iPhone nearby. That reveals the app, download, account, Wi-Fi or cellular conditions you will need later.
  3. Match both generation and case size. Use the current RePod selector. A similar case size does not guarantee that a different Watch generation will fit.

If you are still weighing trade-in, family handoff, repair, recycling and reuse, the full guide to what to do with an old Apple Watch lays out those paths. The second-life Apple Watch guide goes deeper on preparing a Watch you plan to keep.

What changes when the Watch moves into RePod

RePod changes the way you hold and operate the Watch. The screen remains touch-sensitive, while the outer scroll wheel mechanically turns the Apple Watch Digital Crown. Screen response still depends on the active app and watchOS.

The result is a different role for hardware you already own. Your old Watch becomes a compact handheld companion for a specific routine, instead of a backup device waiting in a drawer.

Choose the version that matches your Watch

Start with the generation and case-size markings on the Watch, then check the current official selector. Apple Watch is sold separately. If the Watch works, fits a supported version and already performs the task you chose, RePod gives it a practical way back into use.
